My initial training was in the education sector and I have always argued that education is the main component to break gender inequality. And while I still believe this, experience over the years has led me to believe that education alone is not empowering because it does not bring about the paradigm shift we need. That change will only come about with the participation and leadership of women in all areas and spheres of decision-making that affect our lives. And I say this from my own experience.
Life after my father's death brought about a radical change in my life that brought me face to face with my new future: the business world in the property development sector. I was 27 years old at the time. Those were years of self-improvement and learning. I quickly acquired the tools and developed the necessary skills to move, work and defend myself in a man's world. Yes, to defend myself. Because everyone, suppliers, technicians, banks, clients... demanded the presence of my brothers (men) and did not accept my relationship and dialogue with them, because I was a woman. I did not give in at any time and time ended up proving me right: I was the first woman to chair a federation in the construction sector in Spain. I was 39 years old.
The 21st century is the century of female leadership. Our best tool to contribute to this is to be ourselves, but to do so we will have to work, take risks and dare. Talent is in the person, not in the gender.
Being a woman in the world of work and in particular in the business world is a strength, never a weakness.
"The great challenge for a woman is security, and this can never be achieved by starting from what you are not...".
