Visiting a city during Holy Week is always an excellent opportunity to see it with different eyes, with a different sensibility. If that city is Cáceres then the stories told to the visitor are especially generous and diverse. Easter Week in Cáceres was declared of International Tourist Interest in 2011. It draws fundamentally from the Castilian tradition with its floats carried on the shoulders, although in recent years it is the costaleros who move the floats of the Brotherhood of the Brotherhood of Esperanza del Vivero. This takes place mostly in the old quarter of the city, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. More than fifteen brotherhoods, some of which date back to the 15th century, more than twenty-five processions, theatrical performances and above all a community that lives this week in the streets with the fervour and dedication that these days demand. Easter Week in Cáceres returns this year 2022 full of very special moments.
More than 400 years ago, specifically in 1609, the first procession was documented in the city of Cáceres. A tradition that makes it difficult to understand the city without its Holy Week, the brotherhoods without their floats, and their floats without the surroundings of the Old Town. It is a tradition that has become deeply rooted in young people and children who take over from their elders. At Easter many people look to Cáceres and Cáceres decorates itself and plays host to welcome those who wish to experience this tradition which in some way belongs to everyone.
Stone, incense, commitment, history, meditation and exhibition. It has been two years with the pasos at a standstill and we can already breathe, very clearly, the illusion of recovering our Holy Week, of opening the doors to all those who want to enjoy the best of our traditions in the best of settings.
Cacereños and Cacereñas: "On your feet". Load yourselves with illusion, open your eyes wide and awaken your senses. Easter Week in Cáceres is back this year. We have opened the doors and we are waiting for you to live with you these days of Passion.
